Rear-view radar has quietly become the best safety upgrade in road cycling. A Garmin Varia or Magene L508 tells you a car is coming long before you hear it. But there's a detail almost nobody talks about: on an aero seatpost, your radar probably isn't pointing at the road.
The geometry problem
Radar taillights are designed around one assumption — a round, roughly vertical seatpost. Aero seatposts broke that assumption years ago. They're D-shaped or airfoil-profiled, and they rake backwards at 15–20 degrees. Strap a stock mount to one and two things happen:
- The beam tilts skyward. The radar cone and the light output follow the seatpost angle, so a chunk of your detection range and your visibility is spent scanning treetops.
- The rubber wedge never really fits. Stock inserts are made for round posts. On an aero profile they rock, rotate under vibration, and chew the paint.
The fix: a mount shaped for your exact seatpost
Our seatpost light & radar mounts are 3D-printed in TPU for one seatpost profile at a time — not "aero-ish", but the actual cross-section of a Tarmac SL7, SL8, Merida Reacto, XDS AD8/AD9, RS8/RS9/AD350, or a classic round 27.2 mm post. The wedge corrects the rake angle, so your radar sits level with the road behind you — full detection range, full brightness where drivers actually look.

Each mount is printed for your light's own quarter-turn interface: Garmin Varia RTL515 / RTL510 / RVR315, Magene radar taillights, Magicshine SeeMee, Bryton Gardia 300L, iGPSPORT SR30 — or a GoPro-style 3-prong adapter for everything else. Pick your seatpost, pick your light, done.
